Google News was meant to present news devoid of editorial or reporting bias by eliminating altogether any human decision-making in what news stories get posted. This ambitious and noble mission has changed the face of news in a number of ways, but it is worth noting that bias still exists in the sense that the news results are drawn from a finite set of news sources included in the search index.

Have some great tips for using Google News? Click EasyEdit to add them below.

Customized News Page

Google News unveiled a customizable news page, allowing users to design unique pages to view content most important to them. Want up-to-the-minute news on international and sports news but don’t care about business? Easy. The customizable news feature is making its way into traditional media, with the New York Times’ website’s “My Times,” which offers the same service.

Google News Map

Designed by a Google News user, the Google News Map displays Google News headlines on a world map, presenting stories on the appropriate continents.

Google Alerts

Register at google.com/alerts to receive emails as soon as a phrase you specify shows up on Google News (works for regular Google pages, too). Be the first to know about stories and topics that interest you -- including items about you.
